Objective: To perform a standard worship ritual for Mother Marieammen.
Prerequisites/Requirements: Marieammen murti or photo, incense sticks, lamp (with ghee/oil/wick or camphor), flowers or petals, cut fruit or sweet meats/rice, small bowl, teaspoon, cup (lota/chumbhu), milk with sugar.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- 1. Place a Marieammen murti or photo at the prayer place.
- 2. Hold palms in Namaste position and chant: “Om swagatam su swagatam – Om Marieammen-yai namah”.
- 3. Offer one or three incense sticks by turning them seven times clockwise around the deity.
- 4. Offer a clay or brass lamp by turning it seven times clockwise around the deity.
- 5. Offer flowers or petals by turning them seven times clockwise around the deity.
- 6. Offer food (Naivedyam) in a small bowl; turn the bowl seven times clockwise, bring it near the lips of the deity, then leave it in front of the deity.
- 7. Offer sweetened milk in a cup; turn the cup seven times clockwise and bring it near the lips of the deity.
- 8. Offer prayers for forgiveness and personal requests.
