Objective: To perform a sacred prayer ritual to honor Goddess Lakshmi and seek her blessings for wealth and prosperity.
Prerequisites/Requirements: Pictures or murtis of Lord Ganesh and Mother Lakshmi, Lakshmi lamp, incense sticks, lamp (with ghee/oil and wick or camphor), flowers or petals, small bowls, teaspoon, lota (cup), Naivedyam (sweet rice, Soji, sugar candy, or fruits), milk with sugar/jaggery.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Place the Lord Ganesh murti/photo and Lakshmi murti/photo at the designated prayer place.
- Begin with Lord Ganesh: Offer an agarbatti, a lamp, and a flower by turning them clockwise seven times around his image.
- Offer Ganesh Naivedyam (food offering) and pray for the removal of all obstacles in your path.
- Begin Mother Lakshmi’s prayer: Hold palms in Namaste and chant the welcome mantra “Om swagatam su swagatam – Om Lakshmi-yai namah”.
- Offer 1 or 3 incense sticks (dhoopam) by turning them clockwise seven times around her deity or photo while chanting the dhoopam mantra.
- Offer a clay or brass lamp (deepam) by turning it clockwise seven times around her deity or photo while chanting the deepam mantra.
- Offer flowers or petals (pushpam) by turning them clockwise seven times while chanting the pushpam mantra.
- Offer Naivedyam in a small bowl: turn it clockwise seven times, bring it near the deity’s lips as if suggesting she partakes, and then place it before the image.
- Offer sweetened milk in a lota: turn it clockwise seven times and bring it near the lips of the Devi.
- Offer prayers for forgiveness by chanting the specific “Om yaani kaani cha papani…” mantra.
- Offer your personal heart-felt prayers and desires.
- (Optional) Chant the Lakshmi Devi mantra or sing the Lakshmi Chalisa.
